Each step for Trevor is difficult. With the assistance of a walker, he slowly takes careful steps to maneuver around.
Life for Trevor wasn't always this difficult. At one time, he walked and played like any toddler. However, everything changed for Trevor in April of 2006 when he was diagnosed with Leukodystrophy (MLD), a disease that impairs growth or development. Symptoms include muscle wasting and weakness and progressively lead towards blindness, paralysis, and dementia. There is no cure for MLD. Most children die by the age 5.
His daily struggles didn't deter him from enjoying several activities along the Emerald Coast. During his stay, Trevor was named zoo keeper for a day at Zoo World. There, he was able to see and hold various animals at the park. He also went aboard the Southern Star for an afternoon dolphin cruise. |
